"A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children" -John Madison

As winter comes to a close Docherty Tree Experts would like to share with you some of the many changes our company has made during the dormant season.  With the cool spring breeze and early morning bird songs comes a first glimpse into what is needed to achieve a green and healthy landscape.  And now is the time for action.  To help you achieve this goal, our company has made great strides towards educating and training our plant health care staff about the insects and diseases that affect so many of your landscapes and lawns. We have acquired cutting-edge technology to properly treat these problems in environmentally sound ways. Our liquid services program (spraying and fertilization) is completely organic as defined by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). What’s more, we are continuing with our GreenStart program by addressing ailments of the landscape that are not regularly seen but often are the root of the problem.

All too often homeowners ask plant health care specialists to visit their property because of a problem with their prized Japanese maple or dogwood tree. Or perhaps their azaleas or hydrangeas have seen better days. Three different professionals may provide you with three different diagnoses. But—quite surprisingly—all three specialists will offer the same treatment. This is because there are a handful of buzzwords and simple broadcast pesticides that are routinely prescribed for a variety of different problems. Often times this leaves customers without a real solution to their tree and plant health care problems.

A good diagnostician will dig deeper and ask questions about your individual property to get at the origin of the problem and, in doing so, will find a real solution. Often times our soil and plant root zone is a barren wasteland that has been stripped of all its nutritional content.  This can lead to a multitude of problems and each requires a different solution.

As a homeowner we all know how fulfilling it is to have a clean and well-manicured yard.  But certain problems arise when leaves and debris are removed in their entirety.  Plant and shrub soils are naturally enriched and fertilized when leaves and debris are left to break down and are processed by the millions of microorganisms that make up this natural eco-system.  When left alone this system will retain a lush, dark soil loaded with life and will provide a perfect utopia for any root system.

The proper response to depleted soil is to replace and repair what has been neglected. The solution is to have our yards cleaned up in fall and spring but to retain some of the compost around our plant beds.  It is also important to bring in naturally composted mulch material to help provide additional fertilization.  Our lawns and trees are valuable resources and they should be cared for in the best way possible.

Call us to have one of our certified arborists construct a plan for your property. If you are tired of watching your landscape fall short of its true potential or simply want to inquire about green and organic ways to increase its existing beauty and sustainability, call today. Whatever your situation we have the solution—the Green Solution.

Over the next several months there will be important markers that will tell us about your landscape’s current condition.  Let Docherty Tree Experts speak for your trees and shrubs.  Whether its liquid services, air spading, mulching or soil science Docherty Tree will help to make your home—your most important investment—a green and organic garden.
